When a project goes to hell …
Courtesy Kumar, I just stumbled across a good post on drupal which is actually a naked truth about every project and not just the drupal ones ….

When a project goes to hell, the team will often give the developer full credit. Obviously, we disagree — if the developer where the only one responsibile, than the entire team would not be in hell, would they? Even in cases where a developer’s incompetence sends a project to hell, we feel that someone is responsibile for hiring an incompetent developer. The project manager is usually at fault in these cases. However, we also find that clients can often be given a great deal of credit, and get what they pay for. Regardless, we cannot reiterate this enough: good project managers are the single biggest block between your project and hell.

Hi Chetan sir,
I feel we are still missing big picture, And we call it ‘PROCESS’ only way to mange thing in absolute manner. Process either its Interview process or Software process if you don’t follow any u have to axe out the word Professional from you. Big firms are not rally a mad assess which shell out loads of $s just to make sure that they end up nothing but a success.
I won’t deny that work can be done w/o following any process HOWEVER there is gr8 difference in doing work right and doing right work
Looking for ur feedback………………Bring it ON

@Prit: calm down buddy, just grow and you will see at last find that image you saw is correct even if you follow process or even if you don’t follow process. As you said doing the right work and doing the work right is totally different.

Sir as u said “we feel that someone is responsible for hiring an incompetent developer” don’t u think this will reduce if their is certain Interview process, I think at least we will be able to filter them to minimum if we have certain level of interviews which are not just related to tech skill s but also A A M (Attitude, Aptti & Management skills)…..
Am cool just looking for healthy discussion with Big players of IT

Every organization have there own needs and based on it, a standard/criteria to hire resources or as the matter of fact for anything there is a process defined. You cannot do things in the right way without a process established as per the norms and keeping in mind other aspects directly or indirectly related to your work environment unless you are self proclaimed Johnny Bravo.
Nevertheless, incompetent developers do make it to the HELL however again it’s someone who is closely associated and watches everything makes a difference. Quite true to say that good project managers/leads are the single biggest block between your project and hell.

Very true sir
Things work gr8 if every one follows the process and end results are always overwhelming One should not allow needs to overpower the process.
I completely agree that incompetent ppl can make to hell….also its very much justified to say good project managers/leads are the single biggest block between your project and hell.
and am like Hungry young kid looking for more tips.

Hi guess havign a process alone doesn’t make a difference (for example among incompetent people).. and having very good people without any process at all too doesn’t make too much sense. The catch is to tap whatever you have to the best of your ability. Whether it is people, process, time, finances.. ultimately it boils to - ‘what is the priority’. That’s it.
