Khalil Gibran, The Prophet
Recently I had a chance to read some of the work of Khalil Gibran……
Amazing ! How beautiful a person could think and write. I read Ghalil Gibran’s The Prophet. He simply portrays his belief in the overwhelming power of love in human nature. Outstanding indeed. One of his poem that I liked a lot was on Children. Indeed worth reading and relating …
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them,
but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children
as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite,
and He bends you with His might
that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let our bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as He loves the arrow that flies,
so He loves also the bow that is stable.
Wonderful. Here is the link to some of the works of Khalil Gibran.

This is I think the hardest lesson for any parent - and the most exiting one as well: that ultimately children will be adults who will go their own way. I know my parents must be watching their three kids with wonder indeed.

Indeed it is actually the hardest lesson for any parent. My father seemed to follow what Khalil Gibran says contrary to my Mother’s philosophy about raising the kids. We both enjoyed the loophole … getting behind dad every time …!
However quite hard to actually implement it.
I am trying it everyday.
